Caleb Haynes' off-kilter emo-pop project Hey, ily surfaces with two new singles after a quiet stretch following last year's sophomore album Hey, I Loathe You!
"Ugly On The Inside (& Out)" marks the biggest sonic territory the Montana-bred, Twin Cities-based artist has explored yet. The track arrives alongside "anendlesslistofnames-burnedintomyphonescreen," a companion piece that rounds out this release. Both songs suggest Haynes continuing to push the angular, genre-blending approach that defines the Hey, ily sound.
The project has built its reputation on restless experimentation within emo-pop's broader church, never settling comfortably into any single lane. These new tracks maintain that restlessness. Where they land within the artist's evolving catalog remains to be heard in full, but the titles alone hint at the emotional specificity and wry self-awareness that have become Hey, ily's calling card.
