French metal band Gojira has tapped Swiss drummer Luigi Paraventi as a temporary replacement for founding member Mario Duplantier at several upcoming US festival dates. The substitution stems from what the band describes as an "immigration issue" preventing Duplantier from entering the country.

Paraventi, who plays drums for Swiss metal outfit Paleface Swiss, steps in for the percussion duties at the affected performances. The band did not elaborate on the specific nature of Duplantier's visa or immigration complications, only confirming the logistical obstacle would keep him sidelined from these particular shows.

Gojira released their latest album "Fortitude" in 2021 and remain one of metal's most visually striking and technically accomplished acts. Duplantier, who co-founded the group with his brother Joe in 1994, plays a central role in the band's propulsive, progressive sound. His temporary absence represents a rare disruption to the band's touring lineup.

The decision to bring in Paraventi speaks to the practical realities facing touring musicians in an era of increasingly complex international travel restrictions. Festival circuits often demand coordinated schedules across multiple countries and border crossings, making even brief documentation issues capable of derailing participation. Rather than cancel or reschedule, Gojira opted to maintain their commitments with a capable stand-in.

Paraventi's experience with Paleface Swiss, a group known for heavy, intricate compositions, positions him as a technically competent choice for filling in on Gojira's demanding material. The arrangement remains temporary, with no indication whether Duplantier's immigration status will be resolved before the festival run concludes.
