Pratt Institute's School of Continuing and Professional Studies has launched three new certificate programs in response to shifting creative careers. The programs are Graphic Design, Fine Art, and AI Design.
The Graphic Design course covers typography, branding, composition and visual systems across digital, print, motion and interactive media. The Fine Art course offers small, interactive groups where students curate portfolios and work with experienced instructors in Pratt's art studios. The AI Design course explores artificial intelligence for research, visualization, ideation and production while examining questions of authorship, ethics and responsible design.
Pratt described AI as a "creative tool" rather than a replacement for creative thinking. "The emphasis remains on human creativity, with technology extending what designers can explore and produce," the organization said.
The institute framed the new offerings as responses to changing career patterns. "Creative careers are becoming more fluid, and education is changing with them," Pratt stated. Designers increasingly move between studios and start-ups, consulting and collaborative research, requiring quick skill development as technology changes. Designers are also expected to move between physical and digital environments, combine technical skills with conceptual thinking, and adapt to emerging tools.
The courses are available in person at Pratt's Manhattan and Brooklyn campuses and in hybrid formats. Students learn alongside architects, artists, creative technologists and entrepreneurs, exchanging ideas and forging professional connections.
